PRESIDENTIAL NOTES
Hi from your Pres:
Wow, time for Hot August Nights already!! I'd like to see all members at the July 20th meeting. So everyone can sign up for the car push during Hot August Nights. Sign up early if you want to pick your push day.
Hope to see you at the July meeting.
Studebakerly yours, Pete
Tips from your Club
Change oil before storage of your Studebaker so the acid in the old oil will not damage any bearings during the storage time. Run the engine for a few minutes after the new oil is added.
SECRETARY NOTES:
Minutes of May 18, 2010
Sagebrush Chapter SDC
The meeting was delayed because the scheduled meeting place, Round Table Pizza, had lost the club’s reservation for the meeting room. The members reconvened at the home of Art and Carol Van Dyke.
Pete Kronenberg opened the meeting at about 1925 hours.
April minutes, read by Steve Fleischmann, stand as read.
Members present: Pete Kronenberg, Art & Carol Van Dyke, Larry & Mary Schnell, Steve & Chris Fleischmann, Ralph Capurro, Gary Crabtree and Terry Ressler.
Treasurer’s Report: $250.00 paid to the Studebaker Museum, Dues received - $12.00, Raffle ticket earnings With a total loss of $303.00
We did balance. There are 3 outstanding checks.
Old business:
Larry Schnell took care of the adopt a Studebaker at the Museum in South Bend Indiana. Our donation was $250.00 for a one year period. Our club adopted a Studebaker horse drawn Fire Wagon. We were supposed to have received a certificate, an official letter and a photograph of our adopted Studebaker in the US mail, but, the packet sent by the museum contained all incorrect information. Larry Schnell returned the packet to the museum.
Ralph Capurro had no tour report as of yet. He did mention the clubs attendance, last Sunday, at the Ramsden car show in Minden. Ralph, Gary, Terry and the Fleischmann showed up.
Carol confirmed that the Christmas party will be on Thursday December 2nd at the Country Club in Gardnerville. The cost per person will be $25.75 which includes a choice of chicken, steak, lamb chops or fish. They need a 10% deposit and a head count one week in advance.
T-shirts - Gary Crabtree said that Custom Caps did not have them ready yet. They should be ready in time to leave for the meet in Arizona.
New business:
Terry Ressler will pick up the trophies this weekend.
Orphan meet - there was some discussion about the need of tables and chairs. Tom does not have access to the PA system anymore. Ralph said that it would be nice to have a table to put the PA system on. Ralph will also be able to put together a PA system like last year. There will be a Poker Walk, and Gary has the cards. It will be $5.00 for a set of 5 cards and you can buy an additional card for one dollar. Door Prizes - Mary Schnell will bring a door prize. Larry Schnell makes a motion to not spend any more than $150 on door prizes. Carol seconds the motion. Prizes will be a $100 gift card and two subscriptions to Turning Wheels magazine. Ralph believes the cost of the park is $50, drinks $50 and trophies $150. Ralph will be responsible for getting the drinks, Terry will order the trophies, and Gary will order the magazine subscriptions.
Gates will open at 0830 and the show will be 0900 - 1500 hours. Every entrant will get 1 raffle ticket and more can be purchased during the meet. $1 per ticket or 6 for $5. Ralph will take a show flyer to the Nevada Appeal, Gary sent a flyer to a local radio station and mailed flyer's to previous attendants to the show. Pete will remember to bring zip ties for the sign.
Studebaker meet in Glendale AZ. The Schnells will be attending along with Gary Crabtree, Ralph Capurro, the Erbs, Jay Hubbard and Chris and Steve Fleischmann.
Gary will send the correct months newsletter to the members in lieu of the March one that was accidentally sent out.
Larry Schnell will talk to Jim Sloan about the show and parade in Fernley, NV.
Gary Crabtree spent $111.00 to maintain the club’s website. The domain name costs $16.07 for a 2 year period and the HOST costs $47.90 per year and he paid for a two year period.
Larry Schnell motioned for the meeting to be adjourned at 2015 hours, Ralph Capurro seconded the motion.
Respectfully Submitted,
Steve Fleischmann
Minutes for June 15 2010
Sagebrush Chapter SDC
Pete opened the meeting at 1900 hours.
Corrections to May minutes: Larry Crapo will talk to Jim Sloan about the Fernley parade and car show. Larry Crapo also attended the Ramsden car show.
Members present: Art and Carol Van Dyke, Pat Hansen, Louise Young, Charlie and Carol Case, John and Sandy Erb, Gary Crabtree, Ralph Capurro , Larry and Mary Schnell, Steve, Julie and Chris Fleischmann and Pete Kronenberg. .
Treasuer’s Report: We had 4 deposits last month for the pre-registration for the car show. $122.53 was paid to Gary for the website domain for the next two years, and about 11.00 for stamps. We have a few outstanding checks, but our accounts balanced.
Ralph reported that several members attended the international meet: John Erb, Ralph Capurro, Gary Crabtree, Tom Wise, Steve and Chris Fleischmann, Larry, Steven and Mary Schnell. 300 cars showed up and a little over 100 were judged. Great turnout and the facility was very nice. Ralph has photos that he would like printed up of the cars that he would like added to the club’s photo album for the club historian. Ralph will find out what the price will be and we can vote on it next month. Mary said that she thought it would be nice to post them on our website. Discussion was tabled for the next meeting.
Ralph mentioned the going away party for Nick Fleischmann and said that several members were able to attend and that it was a nice time for all.
Old Business: Two week ago there was an in-liners car club meeting at the Minden Park. There was a nice display of cars as well as vendors. Their club only awards one prize for the loudest car.
Orphans and more meet had about 22 or 23 cars attend. Ralph suggested that we talk about how to get more people interested in participating in the show for the future. Pete asked what the chance is that we buy our own speaker system. Ralph said it would be $400-500 for a once a year use so it wouldn‘t be worth the expenditure. Tom acquired a PA for the show. John said that a good friend of his is a ½ owner in a speaker company. He will ask about rates. Pete asked about how many Studes were at the show. We think there were 7 Studebaker entrants. There were: 2 Packards, 2 Hudsons, 2 Plymouths, 2 Pontiacs a triumph. John suggested that we get a banner to display in town to advertise. He also suggested that we find out what other clubs do to get people interested . Art suggested that we marry up with something else (craft show etc..) along with the show. Ralph asked if we should consider moving the show somewhere else. John suggested having it at the Ramsden Ranch.
John suggested that we help to sponsor the friendship car show. Carol Case said that if it is on private property we can BBQ and not have to worry about the health department and permits. Pete thinks that we need to change the weekend so there are not so many things to compete with. Pete wants to have more advertising for next year and in various venues. Ralph said that 2 people he talked to said they had more fun with a small group, and it was a lot more fun at our show than the one he was thinking about attending in Fallon. Ralph suggested that we keep it simple as we have in the past. Pete asked that we table the discussion until next year.
Club Christmas Party- Carol said that we can have the Christmas party at the Country Club from530-730 or from 8 until whenever we leave. Carol told the club that we would like the 8 pm time. If we choose another time, we have to pay an additional 500.00 for the room since he will be losing the opportunity to have 2 parties in one night. Larry said that it was too far to go for them to drive to Gardnerville for the party and that it needs to be closer to Reno for the Reno residents. Carol said that the committee can work on another location and that we will report next month on what we find. Carol mentioned that Glen Eagles would charge 25.00 an hour for their room. Larry inquired about Washoe Flats in Washoe Valley. Carol said that the food was good, and that the room was huge.
Studebaker International Museum-Larry said that the SDC donation was received but processed incorrectly. He called them and they said that they would resend it. It has the picture and the proper certificate as well as 10 tickets to get into the museum. He forgot to bring it tonight, but will try to remember to bring it next month.
New business: On 7/10 there will be a car show at Terrible’s Casino in Dayton. There will be a BBQ and music, but we don’t know what the entry fee is. Johnny Rockets is also having a benefit car show on 7/10 to send children to church camp.
Larry asked if we are entered in a parade for July 4th. No one has heard from Larry Crapo regarding this.
Ralph asked what our plan is for the money we have in our bank accounts. We are non profit so he is concerned about what we are going to do with the money. Should we support a local car museum? Have a regional zone meet? He thinks that we need to look at outreach with our money to benefit the community. John said that he thinks we should use the money to grow the club so that we can ultimately have more to give back. Larry mentioned that with every event we sponsor we tend to lose money.
Intermission called at 1930 by Pete so we can get a hold of Crapo. We tried to call Crapo during the intermission, but he was not available. Ralph said that he would contact Crapo and let the members know what he finds out. Plan to caravan from Harbor Freight at 0745. Ralph will make contact with members and tell them where to meet in Fernley.
Ralph said that Jim Sloan had an accident in Midwest, possibly in South Dakota in his Studebaker. He was t-boned and his passenger door was ruined. Ralph and Tom are trying to find some parts for him. He was not hurt.
Art motioned to close meeting at 1927 hors. Gary seconded it.
Respectfully submitted,
Julie Fleischmann

Studebaker had a nice ad for the 1947 "Starlite". This week, they were pushing "the craftsmanship you can trust in every postwar Studebaker." The ad showed a father and son team working together on a crankshaft. They were Stanley Lipowski and his son Stanley Jr. The point of the ad was that Studebaker had a lot of experience and the cars were made by family men who could be trusted to make a good car, "home owning, home-loving friendly townspeople." Presumably this was in contrast to the unionized dregs-of-society who made all the other cars...

Giraffe Test
How
do
you
put
a
giraffe
into a

refrigerator?
Stop
and think about it and decide on your answer before you scroll down.
Correct answer: Open the refrigerator, put in the giraffe, and close the door.
The question tests whether you tend to do simple things in an overly complicated way.
2
How do you put an elephant into a refrigerator?

Did you
say, Open the refrigerator, put in the elephant, and close the
refrigerator?
Wrong!
Correct Answer: Open
the refrigerator, take out the giraffe, put in the elephant and close
the door.
The
question
tests
your
ability
to
think through the repercussions of
your previous actions.
3. The Lion King is hosting an
animal conference. All the animals
attend .... Except one.
Which animal does not attend?
Correct Answer : The Elephant. The elephant is in the refrigerator. You just put him in there.
This tests your memory.
Okay,
even
if
you
did
not answer the first three questions
correctly, you still have one more chance to show your true
abilities.
4. There is a river you must
cross but it is used by crocodiles, and
you do not have a
boat.
How
do
you
manage
it?
Correct Answer:? You jump into the
river and swim across.
Have you not been listening? All the crocodiles are attending the Animal Meeting
This
tests
whether
you
learn
quickly
from your mistakes.
According
to Anderson Consulting Worldwide, around 90% of the Professionals
they tested got all questions wrong, but many preschoolers got
several correct answers. Anderson Consulting says this conclusively
disproves the theory that most professionals do not have the brains
of a four-year-old.

Send this out to frustrate all of your smart friends.
