PRESIDENTIAL NOTES

Greetings,

Would like to thank everyone that brought their Studebaker memorabilia to the last meeting, it was quite a success. At our next meeting on March 15, we are going to be featuring a slide show of pictures of the cars that were at the International SDC Meet in Phoenix.

As you know, the tour of Charlie and Art's Studebaker collections was canceled due to weather last week. We will decide on a new date at the next meeting.  Also, I was just asked by John Carter from SDC if I wanted to serve as the SDC Regional Manager and I have accepted that position.

As you can see, our website enhancements continue. Gary has continued to make improvements and the framework for our new online store is already on the site. I worked with Club Outfitters to select a variety of items to put on the site and we should have those in the "store" in a few days. At the next meeting, we will all take a look at the items and see if we want to make any adds or changes.

Sincerely,

Larry A. Crapo

President

Sagebrush Chapter, SDC

Regional Manager, Nevada

Tips from your Club

As you get ready for the spring and summer tours check the ignition switch bezel and make sure both sides are holding the switch in place. This is because if the bezel breaks the switch will spring back and short on the instrument panel. To make sure this does not happen glue with contact glue 1/8” cork/rubber material behind the switch so that if the switch bezel would break it will not cause a short and a possible fire in the car. (Purchase the cork/rubber material at a Car Quest Auto parts store. Cut the cork/rubber material in the shape of a (T) The (T) should be 3.5” by 3.5” the top of the (T) should be 1” thick and the vertical part of the (T) should be 1.5” thick) The other way to fix this problem is the buy a new improved bezel (p/n 1549685w sold by Studebaker International) and install it to hold the switch in place.

Sagebrush SDC Meeting Minutes

January 18, 2011

Members Present:

Pete Kronenberg, Charlie Case, Ralph Capurro, Larry Crapo, Gary Crabtree, John & Sandra Erb, Gordon Birmingham, Terry Ressler, Larry, Mary & Stephen Schnell, Jim Sloan and Steve Fleischmann.

The members of the club presented a card and gift to Gary Crabtree to show our appreciation for all he does to support the Sagebrush Studebaker Club.

Old Business:

Our club will attend the Ramsden Friendship meet and offer 3 trophies. This will take place of our Orphan Meet.

Larry Schnell made a motion to suspend the Orphan Meet and attend the Friendship Meet instead. Emphasis was made on the suspension of the Orphan Meet, Not the Termination of the Orphan Meet. Terry Ressler second the motion - PASSED

Are the trophies given to orphans only? Number of trophies? Or plaques ?

It was decided that we should talk to Bill Ramsden so that we “do not step on his toes” since he is the host of the meet. A motion was made to table this discussion regarding the logistics for Ramsden Friendship Meet. Seconded by Fleischmann.

Ralph Capurro appreciates the participation in Sparks for the Christmas parade. The Schnells drove 3 cars in the parade, and Ralph took Charlie’s 1940 Commander.

Charlie & Ralph attended Ted Bacon’s Wake. Ted Bacon had an extensive car collection. We should try to arrange a possible car tour at Ted Bacon’s ranch. Charlie and Ralph hope to contact a relative that may allow us to tour the car barn.

Larry Schnell wondered if anyone has received a SDC new member recruiting kit. Pete Kronenberg got a phone call but the kit has still not been received.

Treasurer‘s Report:

The National Auto Reno Museum says that they want a donation for our club adopted car.

Ralph motioned to send the museum $100.00 for our adopted Studebaker. Motion passed. Terry Ressler suggested that we should get club photo in front of our Studebaker at the Reno museum.

New Business:

Our new President Larry Crapo made some suggestions for future meetings:

Let’s bring in a piece of Studebaker memorabilia and give a short talk about the item.

Please sign up on a list to give a short 10 minute talk on your Studebaker experience.

Bring in photos of your own Studebaker too.

Charlie Case will have the club over at his place to look at his cars. Meet at Charlie’s shop on Sunday February 27th from 1 - 3 pm. Charlie will provide refreshments but feel free to bring some as well. Call Charlie for directions to his shop.

Larry Crapo would like us to please give frequent reports on the progress of our Studebakers.

Project Reports:

John Erb - not quite on schedule on his R3

Gordon - still collecting parts for his 1952

Gary - big truck is painted and the windows were pulled in with the help of his wife !

Larry Schnell - put new disc pads on his Datona but they still squeak !!!

Charlie - 1940 commander is taking a rest as it over-heats

Charlie is selling a 1964 Champ step-side P/U

Larry Crapo - ready to soda blast the body

The Fleischmann’s - working on rear wheel cylinders for the firetruck

From Charlie -- Art Van Dyke had gallbladder surgery, he wanted a motion made for the club to buy a Studebaker banner from Turning Wheels magazine. The banner will cost $30.00 Motion seconded by John Erb. 1 opposed --- Motion passed.

Closed at 2018 hours

Respectfully submitted,

Steve Fleischmann

Ralph, Charlie and Art were able to attend the Turlock Swap meet. A few old car items, but mostly hot rod type things.

Larry Crapo mentioned the monthly raffle that we have. He suggested taking some of our funds to buy some Stude promo items to use as raffle items to make the raffle more interesting. 200.00 for items. Charlie seconded the motion. Gary will order the items. We will still do the 50 50 raffle plus the items we will order. Gary will place the order.

Larry Crapo mentioned a promotional item company that is local and sets up web pages for free. It has lots of promotional items. If we want to use it, we would send in art work for apparel. The site would set up a link to our web site to our to sell apparel for the club. No charge for site, and the company uses e commerce and handles all credit card transactions. Gary will put a Sagebrush Studebaker apparel box on our web site. Put in motion. Charlie seconded. All agreed. None opposed.
