PRESIDENTIAL NOTES

Hi from your Pres:

Happy New Year! I hope your 2010 is better than great!

I have some new ideas for this year, but more about that later, And of course we will be participating in our annual car show. We have already reserved Fuji Park for June plus the August car show in Reno. We also need to discuss what and where we will be going for the forth of July.

I hope to see you at the January meeting

Studebakerly yours, Pete

Tips from your Club

Why don't parts fit the 259 engine in my 1960 Lark Convertible? I checked the engine number: 3EI9995 or 3E19995 I am not sure if the '1' is a one or an 'I'?

This number is clearly a truck engine. The engine's legal ID number is 3E19995, But the numeral '1' appears as an upper-case 'I'. Studebaker used the upper-case 'I' to denote the numeral '1' and that has always confused people. This should help with the DMV Titling when putting a car or truck back on the road.

From the July 2002 TW.

SECRETARY NOTES:

Minutes of November 17,2009 Meeting

Sagebrush Chapter SDC

President Pete Kronenberg opened the meeting at 7 P.M.. Those present were John and Sandy Erb, Ralph Capurro, Terry Ressler, Gary Crabtree, Art & Carol Van Dyke, Pat Hansen, Julie & Chris Fleischman, Larry and Mary Schnell, Charlie & Carol Case.

Secretary's Report: Charlie read the minutes of the October meeting and no corrections or additions were noted. The minutes stand as read.

Treasurer's Report: Gary announced income for the month was $29.72. Expenses $200 paid to ROP for helping at the HAN push,  $200 deposit for Christmas dinner. The report stands as read.

Tour Chairman's Report: Ralph didn't make the last two meetings, but he said from all the reports he received, the work party/BBQ was a great success. He asked Chris if the fire engine would be running this spring. Chris gave a big smile and a meek nod!

The next club event will be the Sparks Hometown Christmas Parade scheduled for December 5th. The staging will begin at 11:30 and parade will start at 1 P.M. Ralph doesn't have a placement for the club yet but will notify everyone who plans on attending. The theme this year is Christmas Angels and Ralph's connection with this is the fact that Studebakers were assembled in the City of Angels at one time. Pete said if Ralph misses another meeting we'll make an angel out of him - - - well we could wish anyway! Those planning on attending the parade are Pete, Ralph, Larry, Terry, Charlie and Chris & Julie if he can get his pickup roadworthy. The Carson group will meet at the Harbor Freight parking lot and tour over together. Ralph will call all who plan to attend and let them know the time to meet.

He then went on to confirm our Fuji Park "Orphan Meet" (date set for June 12, 2010) with the City. No fee was charged as long as food or beer won't be sold.

Terry Ressler gave a short report on the In-liner clubs Fall Foliage tour. They had 18-20 cars on the trip to Walker via the back route around Yerington and Smith Valley. The portion over Monitor Pass had to be passed on due to an early frost and lack of colors.

Ralph spoke to Jay Hubbard who got to meet Jay Leno at his private collection and discussed a TV special that will appear on PBS sometime in the future. Two Jays do not a bird make - or is it two birds in hand do not a Leno make!

John Erb announced Egge Machine Company will not offer pistons for pre 1949 vehicles from now on. It seems most of the early cars have already been restored and travel less miles so the demand just isn't there. A word to the wise is - buy now.

Larry Schnell said he followed up on Charlies tip about a R2 GT Hawk in Virginia, and it turned out to be a 1963 model instead of a '64 that he lusts after - - - picky, picky! The name and phone number for those interested is Loris Dean 540-241-0804.

New Business:The Christmas Dinner party was discussed in great detail explaining various menus and price. After a great amount of expounderance, the menu was agreed upon and will consist of Filet and Prawns followed by cheese cake. Ralph made a motion amended by John to pay half of all attendees meals. Seconded by Gary. The club will pay approximately $1,000. Motion passed. A dirty Santa gift exchange will be held following dinner with the cost limited to $15 per gift. Reservations must be made with Pete (call 782-4433) so that an accurate head count can be given to the Nugget.

Pete announced Charlie's resignation as secretary and Ralph also said he would not be able to serve another term as VP. A motion was made to have Pete serve another term as President and the following slate of candidates was approved unanimously.

President: Pete Kronenberg

VP: Larry Crapo

Secretary: Julie Fleischman

Treasurer: Gary Crabtree

Motion to adjourn made by Larry and seconded by Pete at 8:10 P.M.

Respectfully Submitted,

Charlie Case, Secretary

What IS Studebaker up to?

http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2006/12/12/what-is-studebaker-up-to/

Studebaker had a nice ad for the 1947 "Starlite". This week, they were pushing "the craftsmanship you can trust in every postwar Studebaker." The ad showed a father and son team working together on a crankshaft. They were Stanley Lipowski and his son Stanley Jr. The point of the ad was that Studebaker had a lot of experience and the cars were made by family men who could be trusted to make a good car, "home owning, home-loving friendly townspeople." Presumably this was in contrast to the unionized dregs-of-society who made all the other cars...

Laughs for the sage.

From Jay Hubbard:

 Drive on....Classic Car Joke

A group of pensioners were discussing their medical problems at the Day Center coffee morning.

'Do you realize,' said one, 'My arm is so weak I can hardly hold this coffee cup.'

'Yes, I know.' replied the second, 'My cataracts are so bad I can't see to pour the coffee.'

'I can't turn my head,' rejoined the third, 'because of the arthritis in my neck.'

'My blood pressure pills make my dizzy,' commented the fourth, adding, 'I guess that's the price we pay for getting old.'

'Well, it's not all bad.' piped up the first, 'We should be thankful that we can still drive.'
